How to make a Festival Feather Headdress

So I thought for Glastonbury, I'd really bring my headdress A game and wear a feather headdress. They are super easy to make (I made one ages ago for Halloween) and not very expensive at all.

You will need;
10 feathers (I get mine from Fabric Land since they're hella cheap)
Glitter and PVA Glue (if you want glitter tipped ones like mine)
1m ribbon (Again Fabric Land!)
25cm elastic
Small piece of iron on interfacing
Glue Gun
Things to decorate the head band
Needle and Thread (or sewing machine if you're lazy like me)

First of all you need to trim any of the feathers that have a funny shape to them.

Put the glitter on one plate and the PVA glue on another. Dip the edges of each feather into the PVA glue then the glitter. You could also brush the glue on and sprinkle the glitter on to it but I found this to be a bit of hassle and not as 'dipped' looking. Just make sure there is plenty of glue because if it's thinly spread not as much glitter sticks and it ends up look stingy.

I left my feathers to dry over night. The house is now covered in glitter and the boy isn't very impressed.

You need to measure you head and work out what length of ribbon and elastic you need. The ribbon should go at least 3/4 of the way around your head and the elastic will be the last 1/4.

Cut 2 pieces of ribbon to the right length and one piece of elastic to the right length. Also cut your interfacing to the size of a piece of ribbon.

Iron on your interfacing on to one of the pieces of ribbon. This makes the ribbon stiff enough to be decorated!

Fold over each end of both ribbons and sew it to cover up the raw edge.

Decorate your ribbon! I recommend sewing rather than glueing where you can as the glue can look messy and seep into the ribbon.

Lay out your feathers in the order you want them to be. Then use the glue gun to glue the feathers to the ribbon, starting with the centre feather. I drew a little line of glue on the ribbon, then pressed the feather into it. Remember to glue your feathers face down.

Draw a wiggly line of glue on the ribbon over the feather sticks and carefully place the other piece ribbon on top, sandwiching the feathers in.

Slide the elastic inbetween the ends of the ribbon and sew in place. Do this on both sides making a loop.

And there it is!

If you make one of these, let me see the photos! I really want to see how other peoples look! Tag me on instagram or twitter @nadiacupcake or if you get stuck!

Dungarees and Pussy Bow Blouse

I love this outfit, it has a real 70s vibe, all with clothes I've owned for ages. I love it when you feel so on trend without buying anything new, just coming up with new ways of wearing old clothes. My dungarees and hat are from Select and my blouse I think I got at a jumble sale on the portobello road. I just wish I had a pair of flared dungarees.

Baseball Cap

A more boyish outfit than I usually wear, but I love my cap. It was only a pound in Primark and I feel a bit like a Monki model in this outfit.

House of Hufflepuff

Everyone always wants to be in Griffindor, Slytherin or if they think they're clever Ravenclaw. I know I'd be in the house of useless but good looking people - hufflepuff. It's great because there's always hufflepuff merch left. Listen to this amazing Mitchell and Webb sketch about most noble house of Hufflepuff here

Brooklyn tee and denim button front skirt

Of all the trends, I never thought I'd be obsessed by the 70s - actually I expected to hate it. I'm probably heavily influenced by rewatching that 70s show on Netflix which is one of my all time favourites. I got this tee off the kids section at new look, because it was not only nicer than the adult one but was also a pound cheaper. Hooray for no VAT. Skirt is from select.

Striped Dress and Denim Jacket

I've got a real thing at the minute for wearing denim with stripes at the moment. I don't know where that's come from...

This dress was only £14.99 in H&M. It's like they're going back to the price points they had when I was teenager, much cheaper that recently.

Flares and cropped tee

This is one of those times when visual merchandising really worked on me. These jeans and this crop tee were together in Topshop and I just couldn't have one without the other. I must have tried on every pair of flares on the high street before I went back to buy the first pair I'd seen in Topshop.

Fluffy White Clueless Bag

God, I am obsessed with rucksacks at the moment aren't i? This one I made myself (using these instructions here and adapting them slightly) to look like Cher's white fluffy rucksack in Clueless. I used fake leather and long hair fur which I got from Fabric Land (I know the website is terrifying but I promise it's a legit company which great fabric for cheap)

Leopard Dress

I saw this dress in ES magazine and then had to go to 5 different Zara's trying to buy it. Probably their plan, because I kept buying other things in there... It was worth the hunt though, it's super cute and was only £17.99 - bargain! Sometimes I forget that Zara can be really cheap.

Inflatable Rucksack

So continuing my love of 90s looking rucksacks, I went and bought an inflatable rucksack. Sure it's see-thru and everyone can see what's in my bag, but really what's in there that's so bad? And I can't put anything pointy in, but it's not like I carry a compass or something around. I got it from eBay for £4 so even if it pops, it's no great loss.

Everyone who has seen it has told me what colour theirs was in the 90s. Mine was blue and kinda metallic. What colour was yours?

Phone Cases

I got a new phone recently so I got to go and buy a bunch of new phone cases. My favourite place to get phone cases is from China on eBay. They take ages to arrive but they only cost a couple of pounds. I really like the clear ones that show off the pretty rose gold colour.

Whist looking for new phone cases I rediscovered Claire's Accessories. I haven't shopped there since I was about 13, but they sell some wicked cool phone cases. They sell cases for like every type of phone (a girl in New Look told me if you don't have an iPhone it can be a bugger to find phone cases) and ipads and that too. They also have cool accessories for phones, like little charms and that.

Tropical Trousers

I know it's waaaay too early for an outfit like this but I literally had to put these trousers on the second I got them. I also have the matching crop top but even I had to concede it was too cold to wear it. I did give it a good try wearing it around work but in the end, it was just too cold. Trousers (and matching top) are from select. I ended up wearing it with a plain black tee and this kimono (also from select) which although is still too summery for the weather - at least I'm not freezing.

Sock Obsessed

About 2 summers ago, I became completely obsessed with socks from Korea. For some reason the obsession has come back - and man can you get some cools socks now. I've seen similar ones to the cat socks I was obsessed with in Topshop now so I guess that makes me a sock trend predicting expert now. You can actually buy similar to some of these in Topshop, but its definitely cheaper to order from the far east on ebay.

Silver bag

So I love Anya Hindmarch super cool, super 90s bag stickers, but I don't have a bag that cost more than £50 (thanks tkmaxx) so I don't really see the point in putting a super expensive sticker on one of my cheapo bags. The solution? Get a bag from Primark and stick a load of stickers from Paperchase on. They surprisingly don't come off easily (and the ones that do? Put new ones on!) I can't take credit for this idea - I saw it on Susie Bubble. Which I've used as justification; it's not the sort of thing a seven year old would do - it's fashion sweetie. Eh I don't care - I love my sticker bag.
