Ballet Russe at the V&A

Some photos from the exhibiton at the V&A. You weren't allowed to take photos, but fortunately I had a lot of 'texting' to do as I went round. It was a really inspiring exhibition.

This is a drawing of the snow ballet, from Voyage to the Moon in London. Voyage to the Moon is a 'faerie' ballet, which is a huge fantasy spectacular with several ballets in it. The last remaining faerie ballet is The Nutcracker. I really like the black tail coats that some of the ballerinas are wearings. I think they are supposed to look like penguins. I tried to cut up an old blazer I had to get the shapes, so I could trace the pattern off.

This is a doll costume from the faerie ballet The Magic Toyshop. There were 10 identical dolls in this one. It was based on an earlyer ballet called The Fairy Doll.
